'Stella is a Star!'

This selection helps kids accept who they are

By Kristen SchottPublished: July, 2010

Tony Award-winning actress Bernadette Peters has teamed with illustrator Liz Murphy to pen a fabulous book aimed at teaching kids to love themselves, no matter what they look like – or how they dance.

"Stella is a Star!" follows a pit-bull pup who poses as ballerina Princess Pig to fit in. Stella, who really is so huggable, hides behind her Princess Pig persona and unfortunately falls and trips on her goal to become a "real dancer."

However, when star pig Rose cannot dance during the recital, Stella must fill in – and she learns just how special she is.

This book is just too precious, and from the illustrations of the pigs with their little pink faces and round noses to Stella's cuddly muzzle, I can't get enough. (Stella looks so cute as she pirouettes and jetés across the floor.)

This is a true feel-good book dedicated to bringing a smile to young kids' faces as it teaches them to be themselves – and the selection includes a CD featuring Peters reading "Stella is a Star!" and singing "Stella's Song."

Pick it up today; it's a great summer read for kiddies, and the lessons they learn will help them out year-round.
