Reading Eggs for kiddies

National Learn-to-Read Challenge kicks off Monday

By Kristen SchottPublished: August, 2010

The National Learn-to-Read Challenge kicks off on Monday with the goal of registering at least 50,000 children for the Reading Egg program to help them boost their literacy skills.

The challenge, which was created by Blake Publishing and Reading Eggs, will allow children ages 3 to 7 sign up for the program for six weeks for free at abcreadingeggs.com.

The Reading Eggs program was designed by a team of childhood educators, writers and program developers, and incorporates a core-reading curriculum of phonics and sight words, using interactive animation, games, songs and even rewards.

"We created Reading Eggs as a unique, fun online world where children learn to read,” said Matthew Sandblom, managing director of Blake Publishing. “Reading Eggs supports each child’s learning by offering individual, one-on-one lessons that allow youngsters to progress at their own pace."

The challenge's ambassador will be Miss Lori, a children's TV personality and mom blogger.

“When a child learns to walk they inhabit their environment," she said. "When a child learns to read, they inhabit the world.”

The program runs through Sept. 30. For more information, visit abcreadingeggs.com.
