![]() Anyway, this is a treasure that I hope to share with my children one day, because it is such a stimulating compilation for young readers. The book combines work from contemporary poets, as well as those age-old classics we'll never forget ("This is the House that Jack Built"). In the introduction, Hopkins talks about a description of poetry from a child: "Poetry, indeed, 'refreshes the world!'" How nice for a child to recognize what poetry offers! Reading poetry can definitely be tough for adults and kiddies alike, but for a young one to recognize – and with such gusto – what this particular writing form offers for its audience, is really encouraging and brings a smile to my face. With that said, I want to showcase just a short poem here included in the book about spring (because spring is upon us, and it will be a refreshing time of year). 'Spring Again' Spring again Spring again Spring again Isn't it? Buds on the branches A breeze in the blue And me without mittens My sweater unbuttoned A spring full of things All before me to do. – Karla Kuskin ![]() Kristen Schott is OC Family's children's book editor.
