Check out 'Jack and the Beanstalk' on your iPad

By Kristen SchottPublished: June, 2010

OK, so I usually dislike the idea of reading a book on your mobile device – but this is pretty innovative.

Corona-based Ayars Animation Inc. recently launched its "Jack and the Beanstalk Children's Interactive Storybook" on the iPad, iPhone and iPod, which allows kids to discover more than 30 pages of interactive, illustrated text with audio narration, games and other fun, creative features.

Among them: Each page offers a hidden golden egg. If your child finds the egg, he or she will meet with a surprise. And, certain pages offer additional elements: On page one, for example, children can tilt the device to make the sun move or turn day to night with the touch of a finger. And, if kiddies touch the house, the chimney will start to puff.

I think it's a great idea for piquing the interest of those kiddies who may not find reading all that interesting – and it may also be fun for long car rides or trips.

My only concern about this product is that it is for use on Apple products – pretty expensive devices. I suggest keeping a close eye on young ones when they use it or discovering it with your child.

The app is only $3.99, so if you're among those lucky enough to have an iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone – and you don't mind sharing with your children – I suggest you check this out.

But: Don't forget about the REAL book.
