When I was younger, I used to love the show "It's Curtoon Time," with Curt Visca. The interactive show features Visca, a "curtoonist," who draws crazy, wacky characters. Children have the opportunity to draw along with Visca, creating their own versions of his already silly cartoons. Loved it. I'll never forget it. But, I've discovered something entirely new and different for your kids – and it involves reading, too! It's called "How to Draw With Drew Brophy" from Walter Foster Publishing. Kids can follow along with Brophy, a San Clemente-based surf artist – whose work can be found on everything from shoes, to surfboards, to guitars – and learn how to draw some of his favorite pieces. ![]() Art includes the "Super Tube," flowers, tikis and "Happy Fish." ![]() Brophy offers step-by-step instructions, tips for getting started and other hints throughout the book. ![]() It's pretty cool, and it helps to fuel your child's creative abilities. Plus, it's a great summer activity – set your child up in the back yard with this book, a pencil, some crayons or markers, and of course some paper, and watch the drawings take form. Have fun! 'How to Draw With Drew Brophy' By Drew and Maria Brophy (Walter Foster Publishing; $8.95; 48 pages) ![]() Kristen Schott is OC Family's children's book editor.
