Latitude 33 and Fashion Island offer book signings

By Kristen SchottPublished: August, 2010

If you're still trying to keep your kiddies reading through the rest of the summer, check out these book signings and storytimes set for this week – they will surely keep your little ones entertained.

Stop by the Barnes & Noble store at Fashion Island on Aug. 7 for storytime with Gerry Renert, who will read and sign copies of his new book, "Nathan Saves Summer."

That selection follows hippopotamus Nathan, who wants to be a lifeguard at a small pond. While other animals try to convince him that it may not be the best idea, he forges ahead. But will he succeed?

Renert is the brains behind the animated preschool TV series "ToddWorld," which has been nominated for an Emmy three times.

This event kicks off at 1 p.m. at the kids department.

And, on Aug. 9, illustrator Laura Regan will be stopping by Latitude 33 Bookshop in Laguna Beach to read and sign copies of the new book, "Pierre the Penguin," which features her artwork.

The story, which was penned by Jean Marzollo, follows Pierre, an African penguin living at the California Academy of Sciences, who begins to lose his feathers – oh no! Luckily, a biologist comes up with a solution that might just help him out.

"Pierre the Penguin" is among a number of children's books that feature Regan's work – her illustrations appear in 13 stories, including four penned by author Jane Yolen.

The event will be held at 11 a.m. at 311 Ocean Ave.
