![]() Through the A Book and A Buck fundraiser, children can find a book (or books) to read and ask a family member or friend to sponsor them for every title they enjoy. The best part? It's a dollar a book. The program, which kicks off in July and runs through August, is open to kiddies and will provide all who participate with a certificate of achievement. Additionally, the top 18 readers – or those who partake in multiple titles – will be recognized on the OC Family main stage during the fair, which is slated for Oct. 3 at Orange Coast College. The event is a book bonanza for young ones, featuring some of my favorite authors and illustrators, including Steve Gray, the artistic mind behind "Farmer McPeepers and His Missing Milk Cows" and "There Was an Old Monkey Who Swallowed a Frog," and Robin Preiss Glasser, the illustrator of the "Fancy Nancy" series. Sign up to take part in the fundraiser at kidsbookfestival.com, where you can find additional rules, prize lists, sponsor forms and book tracking sheets. Participants can also donate new or gently used selections during the festival. ![]() Kristen Schott is OC Family's children's book editor.
