Publishing company CCA and B recently launched a new product and book concept aimed at helping kids face their bedtime fears. The "A Light in the Night" concept includes a plush toy – dubbed a "nighttime guardian" – that emits a soft glow when squeezed and a board book featuring a simple, easy-to-read story for young ones. ![]() The book assures children that the "nighttime guardian" will be by their side through the sleeping hours. "Have faith in me; there's no need to fear. You can sleep soundly whenever I'm near," is just one of the many lines the book offers to help waylay worries. ![]() Eventually, children may find that they no longer need to rely on the toy anymore; they've learned to be brave on their own. Author and illustrator Sandy Harsanyi Murphy came up with the concept after her son Zoli moved into his own room. "He looked so small and frightened in such a big room; it absolutely broke my heart to leave him alone in the dark," she said. "The story of our 'nighttime guardian' has given my children the confidence to sleep alone in their rooms." While there's no guarantee this concept will cure all nighttime worries, it's definitely something to think about, or at least try out, especially during times of change: moving, growing into a new bedroom or staying at a relative's house. Plus, there's a website, alightinthenight.com, where kids can go download a Certificate of Bravery, as well as take part in additional interactive activities. Looking for more?
