Wow – this week is like a kids-book bonanza. Let me tell you a little bit about what's been going on here, and what's happening this weekend: On Tuesday, in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, I participated in the National Education Association's Read Across America Day. This was the second year in a row that I've taken part in this grand book-themed adventure, and I was so excited to be able to participate again. The program actually runs year-round and works to motivate kids and teens to read – and it all culminates on Dr. Seuss' birthday (of course!) ![]() ![]() Boy did they love it. And stay tuned, because we'll be posting a video over the next few days! Looking ahead, there's a bit of a craze I've noticed, and it's called "Dino Manners," and the book's author, Susan Finch, and illustrator Allison Seda is going to be appearing at at least two events in O.C. to promote the story. The book teaches kids good manners – in a fun, engaging, dino-themed way. The story features a group of dinosaurs that learn about friendship, getting through tough situations, sharing and other themes that are essential for children to understand. It's a great read at home and in the classroom. Up first, a "Dino Manners" book-signing event on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is free to the public, and proceeds will benefit the Anaheim Family Justice Center. The brains behind the book will also be joined by Anaheim Police Chief John Welter and Anaheim City Attorney Cristina Talley, among others. The event will take place at 150 W. Vermont Ave. in Anaheim. For more information, call 714.765.1618. And on Saturday, be sure to head down to Laguna Beach's Latitude 33 Bookshop. The dynamic duo will be reading and signing the book from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The store is located at 311 Ocean Ave. – and afterward, be sure to take a look at the store's offerings. It's an old-fashioned, quaint little place (which are always the best for finding treasures). Have fun – and get out there and read! ![]() Kristen Schott is OC Family's children's book editor.
