The latest version of Kidz Bop pulsated as I walked into a giant room filled with inflatable slides and bounce houses. I was there to speak with Rebecca Lowell, president of the Moms Club Irvine Northwood, one of the largest Moms Clubs in Orange County. The club boasts an impressive membership of 72 women from diverse backgrounds; Jewish moms, Hindi moms, working moms, divorced moms and stay-at-home moms are part of the mix. This Moms Club is similar to most clubs. They meet for weekly playgroups and park days, and they plan festive parties for major holidays and family nights in the park. But along with their social gatherings, this Moms Club also helps the community. Lowell says, “The idea is not that we raise big bucks, but it helps to remind us that we should always be giving back to our community.” For example, to help local fire victims, Irvine Northwood hosted fund-raisers to collect money for the American Red Cross. In addition to their day-to-day lives, the Irvine Northwood women run numerous club activities. Pizza parties, park days, fund-raisers and birthday celebrations are all in a week’s work for these busy women. President: Rebecca Lowell Where they meet: Location varies When: Every Wednesday Number of members: 72 How to join: thelowells@cox.net |
