Aileen HawkinsAs a young girl growing up in New Jersey, Media Mom Aileen watched what some would call a ridiculous amount of TV and movies. She credits her media addiction with helping her get into a decent college, land a husband, and become a two-time Jeopardy champion.Aileen currently lives in South County with her husband and two daughters, G-love and E-bear. She’s a mostly-stay-at-home mom, part-time high school teacher, and an aspiring World Series of Pop Culture champ. She owns two DVRs and maintains a much-abused membership at Blockbuster. She’s one of Borders’ best customers, and she’s obsessed with Facebook. Her girls watch TV and have their own iTunes playlists, and every Friday night her family enjoys a Picnic and a Flick in the living room. Lately, she’s begun writing children’s books and playing guitar. When she grows up, she wants to be Maria from Sesame Street…but look like Olivia Newton John in Xanadu. Because she loves movies, television, music, and books, Aileen tries to stay on top of what’s happening in family-friendly entertainment and the current research on the impact of media consumption on kids. She wants her girls to become media-savvy, not media-averse. Media Mom writes about how parents and kids can integrate media into their daily lives, and how to find media that entertains, educates, and enriches the family. ![]() |
