The brand’s Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree campaign last year planted 35,000 trees in Costa Rica

Etnies works to save Brazil forests

Lake Forest-based lifestyle brand etnies has assumed corporate responsibility on a global scale. The popular skate brand’s Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree campaign, launched last year in Costa Rica, has already planted 35,000 trees in that country, and the company plans to expand its reforestation efforts to Brazil in 2012 and has forged a new partnership with Maryland-based Trees for the Future.

The campaign is supported through etnies shoe sales. For every purchase of the brand’s Jameson 2 and Jameson 2 Eco men’s and youth shoes as well as girl’s Caprice Eco and Circe Eco shoes, the company will purchase and direct the planting of one tree in its rainforest reforestation program.

“We play in our planet, and we need to take care of it,” said Pierre-Andre Senizergues, CEO and owner of etnies. “Through our Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree project we are excited that everyone can come together to be a part of the solution – giving future generations the opportunity to see and experience the benefits these life-giving rainforests bring to the Earth.”

The Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree campaign began in 2011, with the aim of replanting Costa Rican rainforest on the Maleku preserve through the help of the La Reserva Forest Foundation. The initial campaign met its goal of planting 35,000 trees in the heavily deforested area, and due to its success, etnies has targeted a new area. Through the partnership with Trees for the Future, local student and native groups in the state of Sao Paulo will be educated about environmental issues and the importance of preserving the rainforest for future generations. These groups will also help with the actual tree planting. etnies is aiming to seed a total of 100,000 trees in Brazil.
