The musical will return to O.C. Feb. 20 to March 17
If you haven’t yet traveled to Oz, a new chance to is coming. WICKED, the Broadway musical that broke box office records in 2006 and 2011 is returning to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts from Feb. 20 to March 17. Tickets go on sale Dec. 9.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, the musical, by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman tells the other side of story of the Wizard of Oz. Years before Dorothy’s house lands over the rainbow, two very unlikely characters meet and later become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the good witch of the east.
“The return of WICKED to Segerstrom Center for the Arts has generated a great deal of excitement,” said Terrence W. Dwyer, Segerstrom’s president. “The broad appeal of this beloved Broadway musical attracts a tremendously enthusiastic audience. We look forward to welcoming returning fans and first time attendees to the Center to enjoy this remarkable production.”
The production includes set design by Sweeney Todd’s Eugene Lee, costume design by Into the Woods’ Susan Hilferty, lighting by Hairspray’s Kenneth Posner and sound design by The Lion King’s Tony Meoloa. Stephen Oremus is the musical director, leading orchestrations by William David Brohn and dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott.
There are performances from Feb. 20 to March 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sundays. Feb. 21 will feature a matinee at 2 p.m. Ticket prices start at $44.50
