MyYoungChild.org: learn values through online stories

Web site helps parents teach kids about ethics

By Breanna MoorePublished: November, 2009

MyYoungChild.org is a free Web site developed by the Early Parenting Foundation that helps parents and educators teach children between the ages of 3 and 7 values and ethics.

Lessons are delivered via online stories, which are fully illustrated and present situations children can relate to.  The tales deal with values like respect, honesty, patience, manners and responsibility.

“Our stories give parents and teachers the tools so they can discuss important values with children such as honesty, integrity, respect and civility – values that are so needed in our society today,” says Wilbur S. Edwards, president of the Early Parenting Foundation.

Each of the 16 stories is followed up by a set of tips, which can help parents understand how to talk to their children about these issues and at which age they can start to understand certain moral concepts.

The site also includes suggestions for parents on teaching literacy, as well as tips for educators about discussing different values and social skills within their curriculum.

“Our goal is to help children make good choices and lead more satisfying lives,” finishes Edwards.
