When "Weezer Changes the World" landed on top of my growing stack of books, my first impression was to review it. Immediately. Without opening a page. Why? Because the dog's name is Weezer, and I have for countless years wanted to name my dog Weezer – after the band I grew up listening to. Thankfully, I quickly got over that and actually opened the story, and I'm very impressed by what's inside. Published by Beach Lane and written by David McPhail, this tale follows Weezer, an "ordinary puppy," that does all the "ordinary" things – he barks when he shouldn't, drools and chews up toys. But when he's struck by lightning – yes, lightning – he becomes brilliant and wise. He even explains the law of gravity to Billy – his young owner – and his class. And after a few ups and downs and a little more lightning, Weezer makes an impact that no one can forget. This is a fun story for kids. It's a unique, quirky idea, and it's easy to read (there's about one sentence on each page). Plus, it offers a lesson for children about learning from the people – and animals – around them. Pick it up – you and your family will be changed, for the better, forever.
