      Safe sunscreen

Summer is all about basking in the sun. While some sun is a good thing  –you’ll benefit from the Vitamin D – you don’t want to absorb the harmful chemicals found in most drugstore sunscreens.

Not only are most of these products harmful, sunscreens have been linked to the death of coral reefs and the contamination of our waterways.

But safe sunning is possible, thanks to greener sunscreen. Here’s an option that packs the power to protect your skin and our planet.

California Baby SPF 30+ Sunscreen
This non-chemical PABA-free sunscreen scatters and reflects UV rays. Japanese Green Tea was added (for its anti-oxidant properties) as well as an essential oil blend. This formula is simple and elegant. It glides on easily and will stay on when it comes into contact with water.

Check your local natural foods market for more options.

•> SOLUTION OF THE MONTH
     Summer sanity

The days are longer, hotter and packed with activities. Here are tips to keep you moving:

> For quick trips to the park and impromptu play dates, keep a mesh bag in the garage packed with all the necessities like sidewalk chalk, Frisbees, bubbles, blankets and a first aid kit.

> Amusement parks, state fairs, festivals and pools draw huge crowds, increasing the risk of your child getting lost. Snap a picture of your kids with your camera phone before you go on each outing (perhaps right before you pile in the car) so that, in the event of an emergency, you have a very recent photo with your child dressed in the clothing worn that day.

> If you’re heading to the pool on a daily basis, be sure to buy an extra set of shampoo and conditioner for the pool bag. And for the wet ride home, disposable changing pads come in very handy to avoid soggy-car-seat syndrome!
