Ask any “mompreneur” about her biggest challenge, and there’s a good chance it will relate to the constant juggling of motherhood and business. Although most entrepreneurs lack time, energy and resources, moms typically play a huge role in managing kids and family commitments. They are coping with both running a start-up business and dealing with the day-to-day mommy life of laundry, carpools and after-school activities. And many are striving to strike the perfect balance, only to find it an everyday struggle. In truth, balancing both parts of your life is more of a process than a goal, and shifting your perspective will allow you to make better use of your time rather than battle against it. Following a few key steps can set you on the right path.
> Establish a routine This idea may sound too constrictive at first. After all, you went into business for yourself to have a little more freedom, right? Nonetheless, having some sort of structure to your day will keep you on track to reach your goals. Start by setting regular office hours. This may be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while your kids are at school; however, if you have a preschooler who is only in school part time, you may need to adapt your schedule by adding early mornings or an hour after bedtime.
