SOLUTION OF THE MONTH
We’ve all heard the phrase “pick your battles,” and never does that expression resonate with moms more than when dressing a strong-willed child during the morning rush. Before you give in to that T-shirt for the third straight day, or last Halloween’s Snow White costume, here are a few strategies that will save your sanity, while still allowing your child to express her creativity and personality:
Purchase a plastic “pseudo-dresser” with 6 small or 3 larger drawers, and place it in your child’s closet. Each Sunday, fill the drawers with outfits (pants/dress, shirt, underwear and socks) that will be suitable for the week ahead. Be sure that they are interchangeable, or make peace with plaids and stripes, so your child can have the liberty to mix and match at will. Each morning, let your child know that she can choose anything from her very own dresser. This way, you can be sure she will relish in the freedom of choice, while still wearing items that have been (secretly) pre-approved. And, when she proudly swooshes into the kitchen with her finely chosen attire, it’s a win-win.
