Protect your little ones' ears this summer

Summer is here. Fun is in the air. But parents know that there are extra precautions that need to be taken during the summer months.

While parents are implored to be cautious of dangers that can come from the sun, Mark Shikowitz, an ear, nose and throat specialist warns parents to be just as diligent when it comes to protecting their children’s ears this summer.

Excessive water exposure to the ear during long sessions in the swimming pool can cause a painful infection on the outer ear as well as in the ear canal, referred to as “swimmer’s ear.”

Shikowitz recommended the use of earplugs, such as BioEars, to prevent water from entering the ear canal. BioEars, with Microban® antimicrobial technology, prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria on the earplug.

In addition, ClearEars is a product created to dry the ear canal if water becomes trapped, and according to the press release, there is no risk of abrading the skin.
