![]() The family-friendly schedule of outdoor events includes amazing demonstrations and science-oriented stage shows. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. a public viewing of student inventions will be held in the IVC Hart gym. The Astounding Inventions competition began with nearly 4,000 students, kindergarten through 8th grade, participating at the school level from Irvine and Tustin Unified School Districts. Approximately 400 finalists were be chosen to show their inventions in the competition, on Saturday. The awards ceremony will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the gym. The public is welcome at all events. Admission and parking are free. As part of its title sponsorship, Greenberg Traurig will select two inventions from the event, based on the perceived patentability, and conduct a provisional patent application search on behalf of those two student inventors for their inventions. The Astounding Inventions competition, now in its 22nd year, was conceived by Irvine Valley College in 1987 to promote creativity and interest in mathematics and science education among area students. At a time when many schools are eliminating these valuable programs, the Irvine Valley College Foundation continues to value and encourage young students to get involved in the sciences.
