The O.C. Fair is hot! Remember to keep your cool!

Cool ideas for chilling out at the OC Fair

by Caitlin AdamsPublished: August, 2010

As we move from the end of July into August, the Orange County Fair sees thousands of people streaming through its gates every day. The days can be hot, so it’s important to know how to keep comfortable and cool on the midway. Fortunately, the Fair has oodles of options for chilling out, cooling down, beating the heat and staying refreshed.
  • Our favorite method of staying cool is definitely the frozen treats. The OC Fair has an abundance of vendors featuring brain-freezing ice cream, sno-cones, frozen yogurt, shaved ice, and frosty lemonade, which are sure to cool down Fairgoers on even the hottest day. Don’t forget to try the deep-fried Klondike bar!
  • For the first time, the OC Fair has strategically-placed misters throughout the grounds to gently sprinkle patrons with a refreshingly cool mist.
  • Fans from last year will remember the popular 3-D attraction Al's Brain, where the air conditioning is cranked and you can sit for 10 revitalizing minutes – just long enough to enjoy the movie and cool down.
  • Just in time for the dog days of August, the OC Fair is introducing a cool new attraction: a synthetic ice skating rink. While not real ice, the attraction gives Fair visitors the nippy illusion of gliding through a winter wonderland. The rink opens Aug. 11 at the Livestock Show Ring, skate rental is only $2 or FREE for Super Pass holders.
  • Two words – ICE MUSEUM! Ice Carver Roland Hernandez and his parka-clad crew have created a 25’ x 25’ ice museum filled with frosty works of art, including Michelangelo’s David, King Tut, Venus de Milo and more. The refreshingly frigid museum is kept at a bone-chilling 21 degrees and offers everyone from young to old a sure escape from the blistering heat.
As always, remember to use sunscreen and wear light clothes and comfortable shoes (open-toed shoes are not allowed on some rides), and water to stay hydrated. If you’re staying late, bring a jacket or sweater. Got too much to carry? All-day locker rentals are just $5.
