Mom's Day Off

Between us girls...

What’s the strangest place you’ve ever breastfed your baby?

“The memory that most sticks in my mind is one of breastfeeding my son on a plane from Sydney, Australia, to Los Angeles. I had an aisle seat, which was great space-wise, but not so good privacy-wise. There was a man sitting across the aisle from me, which in economy is not that far away. I was trying to be discreet, but it was awkward, and then I remember accidentally flashing the guy. I’m sure that he didn’t look in our direction again the entire trip!”
Suzy, 37, of Rancho Santa Margarita

“We were in San Diego at the Crew Classic rowing tournament in Mission Bay. It was an odd moment to realize I’d gone from rowing myself on the college team to watching it while breastfeeding!”
Darci, 40, of Irvine

“It was during a wedding at a hotel. I escaped to a bar that was closed and hid out in a booth in the back. One of the employees saw me and brought me a glass of ice water. It was great!”
Niki, 28, of Newport Beach

“Two unique places come to mind. The 1st was a beautiful, fancy hotel bathroom stall in Paris on the Champs-Elysées.
(I was not even staying in that hotel.) The 2nd was with the wind gusting on the top level of St. Angelo Castle in Rome, which was once the home of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.”
Ann, 45, of Irvine

“My negative A-size breast must be all milk ducts, because when I breastfed,
I would have to hold a cup under the other breast and it would completely fill up. Therefore, I was pretty much held hostage to feed at home. Those offended by public breastfeeding probably wouldn’t have appreciated my other breast exposed with a cup under the fountain!”
Jennifer, 38, of Santa Ana

“Miss Modest here has only done so in Nordstrom bathrooms or the car. I guess I lack adventure!”
Nicolle, 27, of Newport Beach

“The most uncomfortable place I breastfed was in a Ralph’s bathroom. There was no chair and the lock didn’t work, so a woman walked in on me standing in the middle of the room (which was not clean) nursing my daughter. We promptly left and I ended up sitting on some summer patio furniture that the store had displayed in the produce section. I don’t think they intended anyone to sit there, and it was a bit uncomfortable nursing her in the grocery store next to the bananas.”
Laurel, 30, of Corona Del Mar
