![]() Always start with a makeup primer. It’s one of the quickest and easiest tricks for makeup staying power. Apply a thin layer of primer, like Smashbox Photo Finish Primer ($36), to a clean, dry face. Vitamin A & E, grape-seed extract and green tea make this primer ideal for reducing fine lines and pores. Primer helps your foundation to go on smoothly while extending its wear. You’ll wonder what you ever did without it. Consider trying an alternative to liquid foundation, such as YSL’s Compact Matte Foundation with SPF 20. It provides a light, smooth, natural-looking veil and has the bonus of sun protection. The formula does double duty with Pore Refiner Complex to help manage perspiration, while “hydracaps” keep skin moist throughout the day. If you are looking to experiment with the latest technological advancements in cosmetics, look no further then the Temptu Airbrush Makeup System ($225, available at Sephora) for professional results. The application is so seamless and flawless, your makeup and skin virtually become one. Smashbox’s double-ended Limitless Lash Mascara ($22) actually works triple duty, offering smudge-free, flake-resistant and waterproof features on one side and a remove/lash conditioner on the other. Seal in your eye shadow with Nars Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base ($22). The primer dries instantly to maximize shadow color and extend the wear. Customize your summer shadow selection with Stila’s Indian-inspired Charmed Eye Shadow Palette, including four shimmering shades – infused with 24 kt gold ($15). Don’t forget the lips! SeneGence helps to achieve here-to-stay makeup effects with its revolutionary long-lasting cosmetics that let you focus on the more important things in your life. Apply LipSense just once a day, and don’t worry about touching it up; it’s won’t kiss-off, smear-off, rub-off or budge-off. Get a glossy finish, and keep your lips moist with Shea Butter-rich LipSense Gloss ($18). •> Bella Milagros Spa By Susan Belknapp I had heard some amazing things about a new skin-firming treatment, LipoErase, created by Newport Beach-based aesthetic surgeon Dr. Steven Dominguez, who has been using his products in a clinical setting for more than a decade. Dominguez is now taking aesthetic to esthetic with the launch of his Bella Milagros Institute. The facility is tranquil and welcoming – a cross between a traditional spa and a med-spa. Bella Milagros offers regular spa treatments – such as facials, massage and spray tanning – then includes other specialized services such as henna and threading. Then the spa goes wholly unique with Dominguez’s proprietary treatment, LipoErase. When I arrived, Dominguez explained how he selected the quality ingredients and technology behind his products. Manufactured in Orange County, the LipoErase firming cream uses a thermogenic effect to permeate the skin’s layers to rupture the membranes of fat cells, so the cells die off and are carried out of the body. Sounded good to me! The treatment itself was quite enjoyable. My esthetician, Shannon, applied the cream on those “lovely” problem areas: inner thighs, abdomen and triceps. She then covered these body parts in plastic wrap, which was interesting. I think Hollywood starlets must use this method for strapping themselves in when necessary. I found it much more comfortable than a pair of Spanx. Next, Shannon used a deep-tissue massager to help speed the process, and then the doctor came in to apply the cream around my jawline. I watched in the mirror as he used ultrasound to heat it up and create the thermogenic effect. You could literally see the skin firming and contours forming after just 10 minutes of the treatment. I admit it: I was very impressed. The cream did not have any kind of topical tightening quality to it, like a toner or a masque would have. The firming truly seemed to be occurring on a much deeper level. I also noticed a difference in the other areas as well. I can’t wait to try additional treatments to see a more pronounced effect. Dominguez recommends using the LipoErase cream as a companion to weight loss, especially after the first 10 pounds, to offset any loose or sagging skin.
