MOPS Yorba Linda started the first-ever MOPS group in Juarez, Mexico. Olivia Lopez, director of missions, was the brain behind the project. Lopez grew up in Juarez and, after a short visit in 2003, realized that the women in this community needed nurturing. After she returned to the States, Lopez was determined to get her brainchild started.
   
Unfortunately, the benevolent plan was brought to a halt when the international MOPS office informed Lopez there was not a MOPS manual written in Spanish, and that a sanctioned club must have one. Lopez took matters into her own hands and spent the next year or so writing a Spanish manual. When Lopez had almost finished, she learned that the MOPS corporate headquarters had completed a translation. She was free to start MOPS Mexico in Juarez.
   
The first MOPS Mexico event took place in 2005. Its popularity grew slowly, due to the strain of day-to-day life. Membership has increased, and, to date, the group has about 50 moms. What’s more, they recently launched a MOPS Mexico for teens.
