![]() Costa Mesa South’s compassion hit home when a fellow member, Christina Levasheff, learned that her son had developed a terminal illness, Krabbe disease. Krabbe is a rare disease that attacks the nervous system. It, literally, causes the body to break down. The women immediately jumped in to help the Levasheffs. They held bake sales, rummage sales and a holiday gift party. All in all, the Club raised $3,000 dollars to offset expenses for the family. And although they did everything they could to help the Levasheff’s boy, the disease is incurable. Within five short months, the vibrant young boy had passed away. Since her son’s passing, Christina has become a spokesperson for Krabbe disease. She has also become a support system for other parents with ill children. President Colleen Cowley says,” She [Christina] just can’t imagine not helping someone out if she can because she has lost a child.” Costa Mesa South helped the Levasheffs during a trying time. Now the Levasheffs are helping out other parents during trying times. It’s called “paying it forward” – repaying one act of kindness for another. We could all use a little bit of that.
