Kid Speak

Every month, we pose a thoughtful question to local schoolchildren to spark their wonderful imaginations. Here’s what we asked for October:

By O.C. ChildrenPublished: October, 2008

What is your favorite book to read – and why?

“‘Fawn and the Mysterious Trickster.’ I like it because I always wanted to be a fairy. Fawn is my favorite fairy, and I love this book.” – Annika, 6

“I like ‘The Haunted Hotel,’ because the three friends are smart enough to solve the mysteries.” – Christine, 8

“My favorite is ‘Cam Jansen.’ She is a live detective and says ‘Click’ when she needs to remember something. It is fun and exciting.” – Anna, 7

“‘Stage Fright on a Summer Night.’ There are two kids that went in a tree house to a time when William Shakespeare was alive. When they got there, they were in a play. When the play was over, they went back to the tree.” – Sarah, 9

“I love ‘Captain Underpants!’ There are two kids that are making a super juice. Their grandma and grandpa drink
the super juice, and they become super nerds. One of the hamsters turns evil and is huge.” – Guillaume, 8

“The book I really love is ‘Miss Pigglewiggle.’ I like her because she always finds a cure.” – Maggie, 8

“My favorite book is ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles.’ There is one giant troll named Molgroth. Molgroth is the boss of the bad guys. Plus, at one point, three kids have to fight dragons!” – Griffin, 8

“‘Bone’ is my favorite book because there are lots of adventures. Lots of cool things happen. I like the rat creatures. They look neat.” – Skyler, 8

“I like ‘Changes for Kit.’ Kit’s friends and family make her a black coat. Then they collect clothes for the poor.” – Talla, 7

“‘The BFG’ was the best book I ever read! I would like to read it again.” – Netra, 9
