I must have eaten a lot!” Michaela, 7, Trabuco Canyon • My daughter Alice was very excited about starting kindergarten. She said, “Finally I am old enough to be one of those school girls – you know, who wear those uniforms.” I said, “Oh, you mean the Girl Scouts?” “Yes,” she replied. “Well,” I told her, “First you have to be a Daisy. Then you graduate to Brownies. She exclaimed, “Then you graduate to Cookies!” Alice, 5, Dove Canyon • One morning, very early, my excited son came running into my room, waking me. He said, “Mommy, come look at the sky! It’s amazing!” The sky, viewed from our second-story windows that faced the mountains, was all orange and red as the sun rose. My son then exclaimed, “Wow, Mommy! The sky is coloring!” Hunter, 3, Aliso Viejo • Mom: “Kate, are you drawing a self-portrait?” Kate: “No, it’s a picture of me.” Kate, 5, Placentia • We were teaching Talia the magic words “please,” and “thank you.” Five minutes later, Talia requested a glass of milk. They had a bad connection, so my mom said she would hang up and call right back. The phone rang, and Gretchen picked up and said, "Hello?" Nana said, "Is this better?" My daughter said, "No ... this is Gretchen." Gretchen, 8, Huntington Beach |
