FEBRUARY'S WINNER:

• In describing  the furry critter (chinchilla) he was able to hold at junior kindergarten one day, Julian said, “I got to pet a furry animal today. It was a chinchilada.”
Julian, 5, Newport Beach

THE BEST OF THE REST

• I was getting ready for work, putting on my makeup, when Jacob asked me to sit and eat breakfast with him. I told him I had to finish putting on my makeup first. I was expecting to hear him protest, but instead he said, “Oh, OK. So you don’t scare your co-workers?”
Jacob, 3, Orange

• One day I was explaining our family’s heritage to my daughter. I started by saying that her daddy was Italian and Irish. She then asked, “Then what does that make me?”

I took a deep breath and told her she was: Italian, Irish, Russian, German, French, English, Scottish and French!

She said, “Wow! I must have eaten a lot!”
Michaela, 7, Trabuco Canyon

• My daughter Alice was very excited about starting kindergarten. She said, “Finally I am old enough to be one of those school girls – you know, who wear those uniforms.”

I said, “Oh, you mean the Girl Scouts?”

“Yes,” she replied.

“Well,” I told her, “First you have to be a Daisy. Then you graduate to Brownies.

She exclaimed, “Then you graduate to Cookies!”
Alice, 5, Dove Canyon

• One morning, very early, my excited son came running into my room, waking me. He said, “Mommy, come look
at the sky! It’s amazing!”

The sky, viewed from our second-story windows that faced the mountains, was all orange and red as the sun rose. My son then exclaimed, “Wow, Mommy! The sky is coloring!”
Hunter, 3, Aliso Viejo

• Mom: “Kate, are you drawing a self-portrait?”

Kate: “No, it’s a picture of me.”
Kate, 5, Placentia

• We were teaching Talia the magic words “please,” and “thank you.” Five minutes later, Talia requested a glass of milk. I asked her, “What is the magic word?”

Talia pondered for a moment, then said, “Bibidi-babidi-boo.”
Talia, 3, Irvine

• My daughter was talking on the phone to my mom, who lives in Texas. They had a bad connection, so my mom said she would hang up and call right back. The phone rang, and Gretchen picked up and said, "Hello?" Nana said, "Is this better?" My daughter said, "No ... this is Gretchen."
Gretchen, 8, Huntington Beach
