![]() Situated on The Strand, the 157-room Shorebreak is touted as “sexy-surfer chic,” but it’s much more than that. Not only is it emblematic of everything that surf culture stands for, it’s a family playground right in the heart of the bustling downtown district – a year-round destination for locals and vacationers alike. My mother and I entered on 5th St., and before walking up a flight of steps, we caught a glimpse of one of the offerings that make the hotel unique – its surfboard rack. There were five boards, ranging in size and color, in the stand. Another innovative element is a wall made out of wetsuit material, which a young boy staying at the hotel called “an awesome surf thing.” Our guestroom was outfitted in a similar beach theme. Bold, upbeat patterns on two cushy chairs, a retro-surf lamp, contemporary artwork and neon outdoor furniture give the space a bright, Zen-like feel. Among the other amenities: a flat-screen TV, wireless high-speed Internet and a spacious bathroom, designed to feel just like you’re in the water. The best part? Our ample deck faced a dazzling 3.5-mile stretch of shoreline. |
