![]() The Deschutes has always been the lifeblood of Bend, a timber town that has remade itself into one of the West’s premier outdoor adventure hubs. In the winter, Mt. Bachelor offers 10 alpine lifts, giving skiers 3,683 acres of slopes, with 1,600 acres groomed daily. Parks and pipes for snowboarders are a priority, making Mt. Bachelor one of Oregon’s premier snowboarding areas. Other outdoor adventures include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling on 560 miles of groomed trails in the Deschutes National Forest – with 175 miles in the Bend District. Snow tubing, snowshoeing and sled dog riding are also exciting and adventurous family activities. If you go in the spring or summer, enjoy rafting, fly fishing, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking and water skiing. You can be doing it within minutes of Bend’s neatly restored historic downtown. Our adventure to the Eastern Cascades began at the Sunriver Resort, a few miles south of Bend. This master-planned development of vacation homes, world-class golf courses and luxurious rental properties is nestled in a pine forest along the Deschutes and crisscrossed by dozens of miles of walking and biking paths. |
