After the ordeal, many pondered how everything came together to save Jared. Their answer: It came from above.
Lisa
Nelson rarely leaves campus and had never done CPR before. Jared didn’t
park in his usual spot. Joel had a skateboard. The defibrillator pads
had just been replaced. St. Jude is one of only two Orange County
hospitals with the Arctic Sun machines.
“Everything just played out perfectly, like it was orchestrated,” Nelson says. “Obviously it was.”
Don Marchbanks agrees.
“Jared,
as his doctors have said, was in the right place at the right time,” he
says. “We believe God had set up Jared’s footsteps that day to allow
people like Lisa, Juan and Joel to be ready to help in God’s plan.”
Lisa
wanted me to get the word out about the defibrillators that helped save
Jared’s life. She says they are easy to use and wants to see them in
more places to save more lives.
“They should be everywhere and accessible,” she says.
Lisa
did receive one gift that day for her heroics. When she walked to her
car, she noticed a coupon on her windshield: A coupon for the very
place she was headed for lunch.
“I got $3 off my chicken bowl,” she says.
God does work in mysterious ways.
