The autism debate, continued ...

For more on the autism vaccine debate, take a look at these sites, blogs and videos:

1. CBS News on why the debate continues

2. Scholastic on how leaving a child unvaccinated puts all children's health at risk

3. Lisa Jo Rudy, mother of a 12-year old diagnosed with Autism, shares her insight with others

4. Good Morning America discusses the debate in a four-part series

Ways to help your autistic child

1. Don't wait to seek treatment. Starting early is the key to helping your child, and your family, cope.

2. Learn about autism. Educate yourself on the issues and, more importantly, ask questions. The more you know, the more informed decisions you can make for your kid.

3. Become an expert on your child: What does your child find stressful? Calming?

4. Accept and love your child. Celebrate the small successes and focus on what makes your child happy.

5. Be patient and optimistic. It is impossible to predict autism. Allow your child the time to grow and develop his or her abilities.
