![]() “Most green lines are started by moms,” she says, “because having children makes you realize the thousands of chemicals in products that you use every day.” At greenbaby-gifts.com, McGregor specializes in helping moms find the essentials for creating a green nursery. “Infant skin is extremely delicate and vulnerable to absorbing chemicals, so parents should be very conscious of what materials their baby comes in contact with,” she says. McGregor’s bestseller on her site features just that with a Nursery Necessities gift set that contains a bamboo crib sheet, an organic cotton onesie, organic hair and body wash, two organic cotton burp cloths, and an organic cotton rattle doll. Finding a chemical-free toy for your child is especially important, because whether they are teething or not, it’s going to end up in their mouth. At the Santa Ana-based eco-friendly store, The Road Less Traveled, owner Delialah Snell encourages parents to check out their collection of handmade organic cotton crochet toys and beeswax blocks from a local manufacturer in Dana Point. While Snell specializes in eco-friendly products that range from building materials to kitchenware, she says her mission is to educate consumers and provide a unique line of products they won’t be able to find anywhere else. “We’re part of this culture that buys mass-produced products that we think are healthy,” she says. “Now people are beginning to pay attention to where and how they spend their money.” Anaheim Hills mother and designer Gabriela Johnson also embraced the eco-friendly movement when she started her own line of green diaper bags. Available at mommyonthegobag.com, her Eco Diaper Bag is made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. For $180, the bag is no more or less expensive than others in her line, but Johnson says it’s probably her No. 1 seller. “The other bags are made from cotton, but this fabric is plastic with a canvas feel.” The bag is currently available in black, but will soon come in army green, as well. With all of the different ways to go green today, the concept has grown from a hip trend to a lifestyle that motivates consumers with ways to keep their families healthy while making the world a greener place.
