Willis, Nolte and Shandling star in ‘Over the Hedge’

[For ages 4-9]

OVER THE HEDGE
Opens May 19
Rated G
A movie starring action man Bruce Willis, dramatic actor Nick Nolte and comedian  Garry Shandling doesn’t sound like a kid’s flick, but it is when  they play a mischievous raccoon, a domesticated grizzly bear and a sensitive turtle. Plus, the feature is animated. These nature friends and many others unite  when a suburban housing development encroaches on their woodland homes. Also among the all-star voice cast are Steve Carell, William Shatner, Avril Lavigne,  Wanda Sykes, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy and Thomas Hayden Church.  Not part of the cast is Jim Carrey, who was replaced by Willis midway into  production.

[For ages 12-18]

Just My Luck
Opens May 12
Rated PG-13
Lindsay Lohan stars in this comedy about a lucky woman who accidentally swaps  her good fortune for a stranger’s chronic misfortune. She tries to reversethings, but something gets in the way. One guess as to what it is. Yep, you got  it – she falls in love with him.

[For ages 7-14]

Goal!
Opens May 12
Rated PG
Youth soccer players will get a kick out of this rags-to-riches story about  a Latino from East L.A. who treks overseas to try out for Newcastle United  of the  English Premiere league. Here’s one of the few movies not released first  in America. In fact, we’re one of the last places in the world to get it.  I know that soccer isn’t as big in the U.S. as many other countries, but,  c’mon, getting the film eight months after Estonia?

[For ages 13-18]

X-Men: The Last Stand
Opens May 26
Rated PG-13
Billed as the final chapter in the “X-Men” motion picture trilogy,  that is, unless it’s a blockbuster hit, this episode finds a cure for  mutancy threatening the course of history. Mutants are given a choice to be  ordinary  and fit in with society or remain superhuman and get to do cool things like  turning things to ice or bearing retractable adamantium talons. Back for more  action  are Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, Patrick Stewart  and Ian McKellen.

Dumbed-down and redubbed for American audiences, this  atrocious animated U.K. production  is about  animal pals who must retrieve enchanted diamonds to thwart an evil wizard from freezing the entire world. Don’t be fooled  by the all-star voice cast that includes Judy Dench, Ian McKellen,  Jon Stewart, Jimmy  Fallon and Kylie Minogue. Grade: D
