Nim’s Island Opens April 4; Rated PG for mild adventure, action and brief language nimsisland.com
Based on the offbeat book by Wendy Orr, the fantasy-comedy centers on a young girl who inhabits an isolated island with her scientist father and communicates with a reclusive author of the novel she’s reading. Jodie Foster stars in her first light-hearted movie since 1994’s “Maverick,” and joining her is Abigail Breslin as the imaginative moppet and Gerard Butler as the literary world’s dashing adventurer Alex Rover.
Foodfight! Opens April 11; Not yet rated (likely PG) foodfight.com
It worked for historical figures and extinct animals, so why not ad icons and groceries? The computer-animated “Foodfight” borrows from “Night at the Museum” in that a supermarket now comes to life after the lights are turned off. Mr. Clean, Twinkie the Kid, Charlie the Tuna and hundreds of other characters born on Madison Avenue join those voiced by Charlie Sheen, Eva Longoria, Chris Kattan and Christopher Lloyd. For teens and tweens, Duff sisters Hilary and Haylie play Sunshine Goddess and Sweetcakes.
