![]() The school is unique in that it customizes classes and schedules around each student’s individual needs; it was recently recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the 5,000 fastest growing businesses in 2009. Fusion is modeled after Fusion Academy and Learning Center in Solana Beach (fusionsandiego.com), which has been providing one-to-one academic and life skills programs to students for 20 years. Fusion Academy Los Angeles (fusionlosangeles.com) opened in spring. Dr. Peter Mikulecky will serve as Fusion Academy’s first head of school, when doors open this fall; he served as co-director of the San Diego school since 2007. “Having seen firsthand the impact Fusion Academy has on students, I’m proud to be a part of the school’s continued expansion in Southern California,” says Mikulecky. “It’s no secret that all students learn differently. Therefore, at Fusion, we’re committed to identifying how each student learns and then tailoring our approach accordingly. It’s great when you see the ‘switch’ come on and you know you’ve turned a student on to becoming a life-long learner.” Before attending college, Mikulecky served as an Army linguist/interrogator. He was stationed in Kuwait, where he served as an interpreter between the Kuwaiti military and the United States Armored Cavalry and Special Forces. At Guantanamo Bay, he was part of a small intelligence team that worked in Haitian refugee camps. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Indiana University and has written several books for the popular “Dummies” series, including “AP Biology for Dummies,” “AP Chemistry for Dummies” and “Chemistry Workbook for Dummies.” In addition, Fusion Academy welcomes three other local professionals, Paula Feldman, Dr. Susan Grossi and Veronica Norris, to its advisory board. |
