![]() Seventeen first graders and three second graders raised the $6000 and they decided to use the money to purchase 54 goats, 5 rabbits, 110 chickens and a water well through the world relief organization, World Vision. According to World Vision's Give a Goat program: "Goats nourish hungry children and families with healthy milk, cheese, and yogurt. Goats also give a much-needed income boost by providing offspring and extra dairy products for sale at the market. A healthy dairy goat can give up to 16 cups of milk a day. Goat milk is easier to digest than cow’s milk and is an excellent source of calcium, protein, and other essential nutrients growing children need. Goats are practical animals — flourishing in harsh climates while producing valuable manure to fertilize crops and vegetable gardens." Top students who raised the most were three first-graders: Lang Csira, who raised more than $2,000, Kaia Wolfe, who raised $1,091 and Alanna McClennen with $1,300.To read more about kids and philanthropy, see our May Middle Years story here. |
