One of Orange County’s most important women’s health centers will open this month. The Sue and Bill Gross Women’s Pavilion, years in planning and seven stories in height, begins its work Oct. 5 at Hoag Hospital. Bill Gross is founder of Newport Beach-based PIMCO; he and his wife, Sue, gave a $20 million gift to support the campaign. Part of the gift will endow the Women’s Wellness Center, a program designed to benefit generations of women. The 320,000-square-foot facility adds 102 beds for a hospital total of 511 and provides expanded clinical space. As part of the hospital’s 10-year expansion, the pavilion is planned to help the community’s growing and aging population. The pavilion is designed not only to be a strategic location in case of a major earthquake, but to evolve along with new technologies. Practice runs already have been completed to test portions of the building. Floors 5-7, providing maternity services, are the core of the Women’s Pavilion. The space will be needed to handle increased births expected across the next five years and beyond. The fifth floor has 18 labor, delivery and recovery suites; three C-section operating rooms; and a seven-bed unit for women with pre-delivery risk. The sixth floor expands Hoag’s maternity services with a 21-bassinet neonatal intensive care unit and expanded areas for fetal diagnostics and neonatology services. There are a range of new accommodations for parents of NICU babies. Also on the floor, the Women’s Wellness Center will employ research and technology to help make more informed health decisions and encourage early disease detection and prevention. The seventh floor has 42 private rooms to create a family-centered environment for mother, father and baby to bond during the first few days together. Information: www.hoaghospital.org. |
