Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, located at the historic Fun Zone site, is opening Sea of Adventure, an interactive exploration of “Man & the Sea,” on Saturday, June 19.
As part of an annual fundraising event, A Night for the Museum: Launching of Sea of Adventure will be held Friday June 18 for private donors and the press.
The museum, which in 2006 was moved from its prior location on the “pride of Newport” showboat, purchased the waterfront property on the Balboa peninsula that includes much of the fun zone.
Sea of Adventure aims to
inspire children, families and visitors to get out and explore the wonders of the ocean through interactive, submersion and hands on gallery exploration.
The exhibit is the next step in the museum expansion into a waterfront nautical discovery center called ExplorOcean, a cultural destination center presenting engaging collections, interactive exhibitions, and educational programming
The museum partnered with Academy Studios, the exhibit’s design, fabrication, and installation company. The design focuses on engaging visitors through stories and experiences that capture the imagination and sparks the quest for new knowledge.
Sea of Adventure will remain on display up to a year. However, over the course of a four-year period this exhibit will transform into nine different iterations and become traveling exhibits throughout the region.
