![]() The fair was devised specifically for Orange County residents without access to health care. Event attendees complete an initial health screening before being directed to specific onsite mobile units to receive treatment referrals, education and other resources. Services are provided on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis, regardless of economic condition or religious affiliation. “The need for health care in Orange County is staggering,” says Matt Olthoff, mobilization pastor for Mariners. “A half-million O.C. residents lack health insurance, including more than a third of residents of Santa Ana. This lack of access to health care, especially ongoing primary and preventative care, puts a large strain on the county’s emergency rooms. “Mariners is committed to meeting the needs of residents in our local community, whether spiritual, emotional or physical,” continues Olthoff. “We are especially interested in reaching families with children. In fact nearly half of all hospital emergency room visits in OC are unnecessary – including more than 70 percent of all visits by babies.” Among the organizations participating: American Cancer Society American Diabetic Society American Heart Assoc.
