![]() The Healthy Families Program is California’s version of the federally funded Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, which offers comprehensive health coverage to children from low-income families. CalOptima, through the Healthy Families Program, currently provides health care coverage to nearly 40,000 low-income children in the county. The program covers children up to age 19 whose households are at or below 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Limit. To qualify, children must meet citizenship or immigration rules and live in California Each year, the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board recognizes one Healthy Families Program plan in each county with the Community Provider Plan designation. The Healthy Families Program plan with the most traditional and safety net providers in their network receives the designation. It means Healthy Family Program members who enroll with CalOptima in Orange County receive a premium discount. “We are proud to be Orange County’s Community Provider Plan again,” says Richard Chambers, CalOptima Chief Executive Officer. “This designation is a reflection of our involvement within the community and our support of the safety net. We know that, ultimately, this designation helps families afford needed coverage.” |
