•> May is National Bicycle Safety Month Summer is approaching, which heralds the end of school and more time to be out and about on bikes. May is a perfect opportunity to brush up on safe riding for the whole family. Celebrate National Bicycle Safety Month and make safe bike riding a must for you and your whole family.
The best thing you can do to protect children from biking injuries is to require them to wear a properly fitted helmet when riding. Head injuries account for 62 percent of bicycle-related deaths. You can find cool, stylish helmets that your children won’t mind wearing. Be sure that the helmet fits properly and does not rock back and forth or side to side.
•> May is also National Foster Care Month Nearly 4,000 children are currently being cared for in foster homes in Orange County. How can you be a foster family?
Visit oc4kids.com for information. Upon submitting an application and completing a background check and TB test, you’ll be interviewed by a social worker. After an in-home visit and CPR/first aid training, you’ll be ready to have a child placed in your home.
•> 10 years together Taco Bell recently joined with Discovery Science Center to celebrate their 10-year partnership. During the past decade, Irvine-based Taco Bell has been providing the nonprofit Science Center with millions of dollars in support, enabling O.C. children to benefit from the exhibits.
“We thank the Taco Bell corporation for their generous efforts that helped build the Science Center in 1998,” said Joe Adams, president of Discovery Science Center. “Nearly 10 years later, the Science Center is thriving, thanks to Taco Bell’s initial contribution of $2 million; their additional efforts, which helped raise $8 million; and their continued support and involvement. Without their generosity, we would not be here today.”
