‘Forever families’

November is National Adoption Month

By OC Family StaffPublished: November, 2009

The focus of a national month-long adoption awareness campaign is to bring attention to the numbers of children in the foster care system who are seeking to be adopted. The result of this initiative, which was launched in 2000, has been the adoption of more than 25,000 children into their “forever families.”

National Adoption Day is recognized on Nov. 21, scheduled to coincide each year with the Saturday before Thanksgiving. On this date, it’s anticipated that 3,500 children will be adopted on the same day. Sadly, though, there are 129,000 others waiting for their “forever families.”
