Author and Orange County resident Hogan Hilling has been a house husband for the past 15 years. His experience playing “Mr. Mom” prompted Hilling to become an advocate for both at-home and working fathers nationwide. Now his book, “The Modern Mom’s Guide to Dads,” teaches couples how to confront gender roles and become more effective dual parents. Hilling has spent years counseling and conducting seminars for new and expectant dads. His advice is largely culled from interactions with the parents at his meetings, coupled with his own experiences as a stay-at-home dad. This book is a simple read that helps women understand why a man does what he does. Hogan’s theories are basic: He focuses on helping women understand their husband’s parenting techniques so they can ultimately learn to appreciate them as fathers.
