'No more tears' for 50 years

Johnson & Johnson celebrates 50 years with two new products, Girl Scouts turns 97, and more.

By Susan BelknappPublished: March, 2009

Johnson & Johnson is celebrating 50 years of “no more tears” with two new products for babies: Baby Bubble Bath and Wash and Head-to-Toe Foaming Wash.

How can they promise no more tears? The 120-year-old company’s four-step process includes a review of ingredients, laboratory safety exams, more than 150 evaluations performed by ophthalmologists and a complete medical review of all the data collected. The result: half a century of happy babies.

Did you know?
> How often does baby blink? Not often. Adults blink as much as every three seconds, but it’s not uncommon for babies to go a full minute without blinking.
> Babies don’t begin to develop a tear reflex until about 6 weeks old.
> Sight is the last of the five senses to develop in babies.

97 YEARS OF GIRL POWER
Girl Scouts of America is turning 97 this year – they sure don’t look it! In honor of this momentous occasion, the Girl Scouts of Yorba Linda will be hosting a family-friendly event for the public, “Back to Basics – Living the Law” on March 15 at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library & Museum. First Lady Patricia Nixon was once honorary president of the Girl Scouts.

Party time is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; admission to the museum and parking are free. Festivities will include entertainment, hands-on crafts, games, food booths, free birthday cake, and fun and informative demonstrations by Girl Scout troops and community organizations.

The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is located at 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd., in Yorba Linda. gsbirthday.org

KIDS GIVE EARTH A REPORT CARD
What kind of a grade would Mother Earth get from kids? That’s what Scholastic and the American Museum of Natural History want to know. The two have partnered to collect the thoughts and opinions of children across the country concerning the state of our environment. Kids are encouraged to weigh in on some of the biggest issues facing our world by answering 27 questions about everything from clean oceans to climate change, and from solar power to polar bears. The results will be announced in time for Earth Day, on April 22. scholastic.com
