OC STUDENT WINS FIRST PLACE IN COMPETITION Carter Greenbaum, a student at Tarbut V'Torah in Irvine, recently won first place in the National Stock Market Simulation. Greenbaum, who was given $1 million in hypothetical money, competed nearly seven months in the online trading activity. GIRLS, INC. MEMBERS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP Four members from Girls Inc. of Orange County recently received scholarships from the Lucile Miller Wright Scholarship Program. Arlene Catalan, a senior at Estancia High School, was selected to receive a $15,000 scholarship. Alina Meza, a senior at Beckman High School, Isabel Gomez, a senior at Estancia High School, and Elizabeth Moreno, a senior at OCC Middle College, were each awarded a $2,500 scholarship. 10-YEAR-OLD WINS MATH COMPETITION Ted Zoerner, 10, of Costa Mesa recently won the top individual prize in a national junior high math competition that was recently modified to support participation by deaf students. Zoerner, a GATE student in sixth grade, was the youngest participant at the contest, which was held at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, N.Y. ORANGE COUNTY MOMS HONORED Three local mothers were recently honored by MOMS (Maternal Outreach Management System) for their devotion to improve the conditions of women, children and families. Sondra Ames, co-owner of Wonderland Bakery in Newport Beach, received the Businesswoman Mother of the Year award, Raquel Lomeli, founding board member of the National Latina Business Women Association Orange County, received the Community Mother of the Year award. And Gabriela Velasco was honored as the Client Mother of the Year. ASTOUNDING INVENTIONS COMPETITION WINNER Third-grader Michelle Chow of Bonita Canyon Elementary School in Irvine was the winner of the 2007 Astounding Inventions Competition, sponsored by Greenberg Traurig LLP.
