![]() Thursday, February 11, the Anaheim Ducks will host its First Flight Field Trip for 15,000 kids from regional schools at Honda Center free of charge. The students come and watch a Ducks practice while also getting a math and science lesson at the same time through workbooks provided by the Ducks. After the education portion of the event, the Ducks compete in an exciting skills competition for the kids. The event comes on the heels of the Ducks S.C.O.R.E. program receiving the Faraday Communicator Award from the National Science Teachers Association. Previous winners include PBS and NPR (see more description below). The
Ducks S.C.O.R.E. (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation and Education) is
part of the Ducks’ grassroots fan development efforts and includes a
reading program (club provides Ducks incentives for children to reach
their reading goals), a physical education program (the Ducks provide
street hockey equipment to local schools as part of their P.E.
rotations) and the First Flight Field Trip (focuses on math and science
for grades 3-6).I’m going to do my best to go tomorrow and bring a video camera to cover the event. Sounds like fun!! PREVIOUS POSTS: 2-1-10: It's a new day 2-5-10: 'It Takes a Village' redux Follow me on twitter: @susebelk |
