![]() I spent three years as a Camp Fire Girl and from that I have a lot of incredible memories of camping trips, earning beads, doing crafts and having swim and slumber parties at my friend Laura’s house. (Her mom was our troop leader.) The best part: the annual candy sale. I don’t know why that never got the kind of notoriety the Girl Scout Cookies always did. The candy was phenomenal. It was made by the McDonald’s company (yes, there was a candy division back then. There still may be). The choices were Assorted Chocolates, Pecan Prides (my favorite) and Mint Crème Sticks (the perennial selection); then one year we had Butter Toffee Peanuts. Yum!! To this day, when I open up a box of assorted chocolates, I’m taken back to that thin, rectangular box and how they were packed so neatly in cases of 12 that had a handle, so we could sell them door-to-door. Is it possible I can still remember the Camp Fire song? We’ll, let’s see, here goes … Worship God mmm mmm Seek beauty, give service And knowledge pursue Be trustworthy EVER In all that you do Hold fast onto health and Your work glorify And you will be HAPPY In the laws of Camp Fire Hey!
