![]() OC Family has ambitiously embraced this philosophy, and, as we move into 2009, we’re all about “new!” Beginning with this, the Big Baby Issue, we’ve filled our pages with everything about welcoming your new baby. (You can almost smell the Johnson’s baby powder as you look at our cover.) We talked to pediatricians about developmental milestones you can expect during baby’s first year, as well as how to handle germs and teething (Cover Story, page 62). We give you tips for bathing your newborn and baby-proofing your home. And, as my own mother often tells me, we remind you how essential it is to take care of yourself in order to take care of your growing family (Smart Mom, page 18). Now, from your new baby to ours! This month marks the birth of several ventures for OC Family: a new Web site, a new radio show and the launch of the OC Family Academy. Our staff feels as if we’ve just birthed triplets! If you haven’t been to ocfamily.com recently, you’ll find an entirely new site that is more about YOU than ever before. Sure, we still have our award-winning articles posted for you to read and pass on to friends, but we also have created a daily destination for Orange County’s moms. We’ll be posting family news and information you need to know as we receive it, bringing you fresh ideas each time you visit. A new team of mom bloggers will be posting every day, and they want YOU to blog with them. Another exciting new feature: Storytime with Kristen. Our children’s book reviewer, Kristen Schott, will share her picks for the best children’s books. She’ll be reading excerpts from her favorites every day. Do you like what you hear? You can purchase books right from our brand new OC Family online store. January also marks the launch of OC Family Radio. Tune in to our daily Internet radio broadcast, where you can talk to our guests on a range of subjects. Miss a show? Catch it in a podcast on our site, ocfamily.com. And just in time for those standardized test, spring report cards and parent-teacher conferences, we are launching the OC Family Academy, a tutoring center that offers personalized instruction in reading, writing and math for 4th- to 8th-graders. If the looming 8th-grade algebra proficiency requirement is haunting you and your student, we’ve got a tutoring team that can help. Space is limited, though, so add your name to our waiting list now at ocfamily.com/academy. Whatever your goals are for this year, make 2009 your best year, yet! Kimberly A. Porrazzo is editor of OC Family magazine and chief content officer of Churm Media. |
