![]() “It hit me one day,” says Hodges, the company’s founder and CEO, “that it would be great to combine daily supplements into a tasty gummy bear. Children’s vitamins were not very appealing because of the crunchy bite, chalkiness and unpleasant aftertaste.” After her epiphany, Hodges spent two years consulting with child nutritionists, food chemists and production experts. In 1995, she established her company and released the first-ever gummy vitamin, Yummi Bears. “The challenge was to create a new children’s nutritional-delivery system incorporating the delightful taste of gummy bears without sacrificing nutritional value,” she says. Vitamins and minerals are substances that the body needs to function properly. Usually these can be found in the foods we eat. However, depending on how picky the eater is, vitamin intake may be lacking. Vitamins can help little ones grow and develop, and are also needed for adults to maintain proper health.
