![]() 1/3 cup unsalted butter 1/2 cup golden brown sugar 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 1/3 cup whole wheat flour 2 tablespoons toasted wheat germ 2 large eggs, beaten 1/4 cup golden brown sugar 1/2 cup blanched slivered almonds 1/4 cup flaked coconut 1/4 cup carob chips 1/4 cup raisins, craisins or dried cranberries Preheat the oven to 350°F. Using an electric mixer, beat the butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the oats, all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour and wheat germ. Press the mixture into a buttered 8-inch square baking pan. Bake 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Stir in the almonds, coconut, carob chips and raisins, then spread the mixture evenly over the baked layer. Bake for 20 minutes more, or until golden brown and set. Let the bars cool for 15 minutes in the pan, then use a sharp knife to score the bars for easier cutting when cool.
